Your Perfect Chesapeake Bay Stop Awaits at Onancock Wharf & Marina


If you're planning to visit Onancock by boat, the Onancock Wharf & Marina at the historic waterfront is one of the most boater-friendly stops on Virginia's Eastern Shore and the Chesapeake Bay. The marina is well-liked by day boaters, transient boaters making multi-day trips, and the adventurers traveling the Great Loop.

The marina is operated by the Town of Onancock and offers transient and seasonal dockage. Located on Onancock Creek, it is a protected marina.

The marina offers:

  • 12 floating slips, generally over 16 feet wide, with water and 50 amp electricity

  • A bulkhead slip and a wide-beam slip for larger vessels

  • Depths of approximately 5–7 feet at the floating docks and about 7–7.5 feet at the bulkhead

  • Limited accommodations for vessels up to roughly 80–82 feet at the bulkhead dock

The Onancock Wharf & Marina features several conveniences, including:

  • Private showers and restrooms

  • Free laundry facilities

  • Courtesy car available for marina guests

  • Golf cart rentals for exploring town

  • Gasoline and diesel fuel sales

  • Reservations through Dockwa or directly through the marina office

Even if you're not renting a slip, the wharf has a public boat ramp, a free dinghy dock, parking for boat trailers, and a kayak launch area.

The marina is known for being a convenient Chesapeake Bay stopover. Once you’re at the dock, you're only a few blocks from downtown Onancock. The historic town has a number of restaurants, art galleries, and community activities.

During the month of December, boaters are offered a special monthly slip rate if they decorate their vessels for the Holiday Lights at the Harbor.

Just a few miles down the road, in Onley, there are grocery stores, auto parts stores, medical facilities, marine sales & service shops, and many other local businesses that make the Onancock Marina a great location to stop and restock, or explore, during longer trips.

The marina is seasonal, from April through October. Reservations are recommended during the boating season, especially on summer weekends and during local festivals.
