OUTSTANDING CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

This award will be presented to an individual, who, over a period of at least two years, has consistently demonstrated excellence in professional and community leadership. This individual has made or is making significant contributions to the welfare of the community through involvement and participation and has given generously of their time and energy for
community betterment. The contribution may be civic, social, educational, charitable, or business related.

SMALL BUSINESS PERSON OF THE YEAR

The individual chosen should represent an established business with a demonstrated ability to effectively react to adversity. The nominee should have positively affected the community through their products and services. The business should have provided resources and/or funding to scholastic activities and community related events. The individual should be a civically responsible employer providing an excellent work environment.

Nominations are now being sought for the Governor's Awards for the Arts 2008, which will be presented by Governor Timothy M. Kaine in September. The awards, which have been presented only three times in Virginia, recognize outstanding lifetime achievement by Virginia artists, arts organization and those who support and encourage the arts.

Nominations may be made by anyone in the commonwealth and must be sent or e-mailed to the Virginia Commission for the Arts no later than May 15, 2008.
Forms are available online at www.arts.virginia.gov or from Joyce Holland at 10219 Rogers Drive, Nassawadox, 23413. Nominees must be native Virginians or current residents; businesses and organizations must currently operate in the state.
The winners will be announced Aug. 1. An awards ceremony will be held at the Capitol in Richmond in September.
